Colon Cancro: An Overview

The colon is a part of the large intestine, which is more prone to cancer. The bowel cancer is also known as the colon cancro. It is the cancer which develops as a result of the abnormal changes in the cells that line the bowels.

Most of us are aware that the exact cause of this cancer is unknown but it is proved that those who suffer from F.A.P or the Familial Adenomatous Polyposis are at risk. They have an increased risk of developing a colon cancro.

The Familial Adenomatous Polyposis is a condition that causes the polyps, the benign tumors, to develop inside the bowel. Over a period of time, these benign tumors develop into a cancer of the colon.

Evidence suggests that those people who follow a diet which is high in calories and animal fat, but low in fiber, run a higher risk of developing colon cancer. Even though early signs of bowel cancer do not often cause symptoms, it is being considered that even symptom free individuals must be screened to check for the existence of a colorectal cancer.

Currently, almost 85 percent of the people with colon cancro are not yet diagnosed. The disease cant be detected till the cancer has penetrated through the wall of the bowel, spread to the lymph nodes or anywhere else. Dont lose hope because cure is possible.

While cure is a silver lining in the dark clouds, its always safest to check for primary symptoms like the bleeding from the anal canal. Loss of the normal bowel motion form and diarrhea are some of the changes that may occur on a later stage.

Constipation is another symptom. The cancerous growth may start blocking the bowel. This may develop a colicky pain in the lower abdomen. This pain can come in the form of waves, each of which may last for a couple of minutes. One may suffer from vomiting and severe pains in the abdomen, if the bowel becomes obstructed completely.

This side effect may be followed by complete constipation. This condition requires immediate surgical emergency. The bowel is at risk of become gangrenous if the obstruction is not relieved in time. In such situations, an instant admission to the hospital is recommended.

The only bright side of the situation is that this condition can be cured by surgery. Various new treatments have also been found to be effective in the cure of colon cancro. An immediate treatment can improve the results of the surgery performed.

If the disease is treated and localized at an early stage, the chances of cure are almost 90 percent. Well, that is reassuring, right? Depending on the type and extent of the colon cancro, the success of the treatment and its effectiveness on the general health of the patient would vary. In totality, you can be relaxed because you have hope of curing this condition.
